Demographics report shows modest short-term enrollment growth, continued mobility

Hudson Huff of Zonda Education presented the Spring 2026 demographics report, telling trustees that Bastrop County and Bastrop ISD continue to experience modest population and housing growth that could increase student enrollment over time.
Huff pointed to student mobility factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, greater access to virtual learning, and school choice options as contributors to transfers in and out of the district. He identified neighboring districts, charter schools, and virtual programs as common destinations for students leaving Bastrop ISD and said a majority of student exits reflected moves of residence or enrollment in other public or charter options.
The presentation included short-term enrollment projections and an overview of housing trends, but it did not produce an immediate enrollment policy change; district staff will incorporate the projections in planning and long-term facilities discussions.
