Middletown Unified outlines potential facilities bond, schedules resolution for Aug. 5

District staff updated the board on planning for a potential facilities bond and presented a timeline and draft resolution to be brought to the board on Aug. 5 so it can be filed with the county registrar by the Aug. 7 deadline. Staff said the draft currently uses a proposed rate of about $49 per $100,000 of assessed value while noting the statutory maximum the district could propose is $60 per $100,000.
"The most we can ask for is $60 per 100,000, and so that will be part of what we talk to our community about, is that we are aware of not asking for the maximum," Superintendent Crane said while outlining likely projects that would be included if the bond moves forward. Crane listed likely uses including HVAC replacements, roof repairs, portable replacements, and converting the old middle-school gym into more usable space.
Staff described consultant work and community polling that informed the draft figure and said prior bond experience has brought matching funds and consultant connections (Van Pelt and King Consulting) that can increase the district’s capacity to pursue state matching grants. Board members asked about outreach and prioritization; staff said project specifics will be presented in community information sessions and that the facilities master plan will guide prioritization. No bond measure was authorized at this meeting; the board set the Aug. 5 agenda as the next formal step.
