District reports gains at campuses previously rated D or F, principals outline strategies

Chief Schools Officer Bret Champion presented April 9 on district campuses identified as needing improvement, saying most former F-rated campuses have risen to at least a D and many D-rated campuses have improved to C or B.
"Overall, the data shows clear progress. Most campuses that were previously rated F have improved to at least a D or higher, and many D-rated campuses have moved up to C or even B levels," Champion said. He and campus leaders reviewed growth data showing positive movement for most campuses and discussed whether achievement gaps are narrowing.
Principals Alicia Rodriguez (Thornton Elementary) and Erin Fogleman (Workman Junior High) described specific instructional strategies and leadership actions used to drive those gains, including targeted interventions, benchmark monitoring and staff development. The presentation included growth and subgroup comparisons but did not result in immediate board action.
