The Mesquite ISD board approved a resolution authorizing a contingent-fee legal services contract and instructed staff to seek expedited review from the Texas attorney general. The board then approved separate contingent-fee local legal services agreements with several named firms to represent the district in youth social-media usage and related litigation.
A board member moved that the board "adopt a resolution approving the contingent fee legal services contract that includes the findings required by Texas government code 2,254, subchapter c," and the motion passed unanimously. The board then voted to enter into contingent-fee agreements with Thompson & Horton LLP; Eland & Bonin, P.C.; and Hanlon Demerath & Castillo, P.C. for representation related to youth social-media matters. The motions were seconded and approved 7-0.
Trustees did not expand in public on financial terms during the meeting; the motion materials were presented for board approval and the district will proceed with the AG-submission and contracting processes described in the agenda materials.
