District engineer: stormwater system handled Tropical Storm Debbie but some areas reached capacity; resident raises mold concern

District Engineer Charlie Krebs reported that parts of the River Ridge system performed as designed during Tropical Storm Debbie but in some locations reached capacity. "Parts of the community received almost 8" of rain in two or three days and the roads are designed for 5½" of rain over a 24-hour period," he said.
Krebs said the Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grate replacement project is about 80% complete and that the CDD recovered a lot after the storm. A resident reported standing water coming up through their slab and possible mold; Mr. Krebs said he did not believe that issue was solely caused by stormwater because neighboring units did not report similar problems. The board asked Mr. Long to comment and instructed staff to include the item on the next meeting agenda for further review.
Separately, when a resident asked whether fire trucks could draw water from the lakes to lower levels, Mr. Krebs said that is not typical and "would also require approval from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD)."
