Bastrop ISD reports near‑term compliance with state school‑bus 3‑point seatbelt law

Lee Raspberry, Executive Director of Facilities & Support Services, briefed the board on compliance with Senate Bill 546, the Texas requirement that district buses be equipped with 3‑point seatbelts by Sept. 1, 2029. Raspberry reported that Bastrop ISD currently had 122 buses equipped with 3‑point seatbelts, four buses with 2‑point seatbelts, and no buses without seatbelts. He said GoldStar Transit will replace the remaining four buses during the summer and that BISD expects to be fully compliant before the 2026–2027 school year.
President Chris M. Dillon noted the district’s plan relieves the board of immediate action on the item. The board recorded the item for information; no motion or vote was required. The district also referenced TEA Exterior Secured Area (ESA) requirements in the facilities update and reported campuses were compliant except for a single adjustment remaining at Cedar Creek High School.
