Middletown Unified adopts California State Seal of Civic Engagement for qualifying students

The board approved adoption of the California State Seal of Civic Engagement, a recognition that the district will make available to students who meet five state criteria including civic knowledge, participation and a minimum grade standard in social studies coursework.
High school Principal Carlos described the program and said it was adopted by the state in 2020. "This was adopted in 2020 by the state of California," he said, and added the seal will be added to diplomas for qualifying students and that the district will notify students immediately so current seniors may apply.
Trustees approved the measure on a unanimous voice vote and staff said they will begin outreach and tracking to support student applications and ensure eligibility documentation.
