The Borger Independent School District Board of Trustees convened a regular meeting and public hearing on April 29, 2026, in the Administrative Board Room. President Payton Lumpkin called the meeting to order at 11:38 a.m., noted a quorum and stated notice had been posted under the Texas Open Meetings Act.
President Lumpkin announced the board would adjourn into executive session pursuant to Gov't Code 551.074; the minutes state the board reconvened in regular session at 12:39 a.m. and that no action was taken in closed session. The board then approved two personnel items: a contract for D'yonne Luke as Head Boys Basketball Coach (motion by Gabriela Small, second by Cyndee Hickman, vote 6–0) and the early release of contracted employee Brenton Whitaker, effective end of day May 1, 2026 (motion by Keegan Neill, second by Robert Bradley, vote 6–0). The meeting was adjourned; the minutes record the adjournment time as 12:44 a.m.
The minutes list members present (Lumpkin, Hickman, Thompson, Neill, Bradley, Small), member absent (Eric Schneck), and attendees including Superintendent Daniel Fuller, Superintendent Secretary Shelby Wright and Assistant Athletic Director Jason Powers. No public commenters were recorded. The minutes do not supply contract terms or reasons for the early release; follow-up with district administration would be required for additional details.
