BISD board approves renewal of 780 professional contracts
Summary

The Beaumont ISD board approved renewal of approximately 780 professional term and probationary contracts during the March 30 meeting. Mr. Derwin Samuels presented the superintendent’s recommendations, and Trustee Tillie Hickman moved to approve them; Trustee Denise Wallace-Spooner seconded the motion. The board voted 5–0 in favor, with Senior Chief Dunn Sr. absent.
Board minutes list the group covered by the renewals as teachers, counselors, nurses, librarians, diagnosticians and other professional staff, representing roughly 93% of eligible contract employees; some contracts were held because of leave or other considerations. The board did not convene closed session and recorded the vote in open session.
