Barbers Hill ISD schedules STAAR preliminary releases, outlines HR timelines and approves foreign-exchange waiver

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Chloe Yowell presented plans for summer professional development and a schedule for preliminary Texas STAAR results. Materials listed dates and delivery steps: early raw EOC results delivered May 22; STAAR 3–8 early results May 29; district and public result availability in early to mid-June; and final assessment reports in July (various dates listed between July 10–31 for EOC and grades 3–8).
Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Barbara Ponder outlined staffing and HR timelines: 2026–27 employment calendars are posted; substitutes and non-exempt staff received reasonable assurance letters; New Teacher Orientation set for July 29–31; convocation Aug. 3; compensation plan to be presented June 1; open enrollment July 6–Aug. 10; and a goal to have campuses fully staffed by mid-June.
Separately, the board approved a waiver under TEC §25.001(e) to limit foreign exchange students at Barbers Hill High School to no more than five students per school year for 2026–27, 2027–28 and 2028–29. The waiver will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency for approval. Following closed-session deliberations the board approved presented professional candidates and delegated hiring authority to Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole for professional positions from May 19–Aug. 24, 2026; both actions were recorded as passing 7–0.
