Barbers Hill ISD approves Skyward renewal, network refresh, device refresh and datacenter upgrade totaling over $1.2M (gross)

At its May 18 budget workshop the Barbers Hill ISD Board approved multiple technology purchases proposed by Assistant Superintendent of Technology Kristen Davis.
The board approved renewal of the Skyward finance and student management software for $101,181. Davis also presented a network equipment refresh for both middle schools through Sabyr: switches priced at $493,665.28 and wireless access points at $188,164.81, with ERATE reimbursements totaling $408,737.76 and a net district cost of $273,092.33. The district stated the existing middle-school switches and access points will be redeployed to elementary campuses to improve coverage.
For device refresh and growth the board approved purchasing 712 Chromebooks, 183 laptops, 64 desktops, 50 growth laptops and 42 docking stations from Prime Systems for a total request of $809,289.43. The board also approved a datacenter modernization project to replace server hardware and virtual infrastructure; the estimate provided ranged from $300,000 to $330,000 depending on memory and server counts, and the transition to Hyper-V was presented as expected to reduce licensing costs approximately 60% versus current VMware pricing.
The motions to approve each purchase passed on recorded 7–0 votes.
