Angleton ISD honors students: Great History Challenge qualifiers, theatre invite, VASE golds, robotics awards, state swim qualifiers
Summary
Board recognized 18 Great History Challenge qualifiers, AHS Theatre's district distinctions and AHSTF recognition (invitation to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2027/2028), 10 VASE gold-medal students, WildCATS FRC #5923 robotics awards, and multiple AHS swimmers who qualified for the 2026 UIL State Meet; Grow Our Own paraprofessional cohort was also announced.
Dr. Alicia Press presented multiple recognitions for student achievement and program milestones at Angleton High School and district junior highs. Highlights included 18 students qualifying for the Great History Challenge national competition in Columbus, Ohio (scheduled for the end of May) and the AHS Theatre program receiving praise from the American High School Theatre Festival Board of Advisors and an invitation to perform at the 2027 or 2028 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Other recognitions: 10 AHS students received a perfect '4' at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) and earned gold medals; the WildCATS FRC #5923 robotics team won a Safety Award and an Imagery Award at the FIRST Robotics competition in Houston; and members of the AHS swim and dive teams who qualified for the 2026 UIL State Meet were recognized, with many repeat qualifiers. The board also heard about the newest 'Grow Our Own' cohort — paraprofessionals who have signed agreements to pursue teacher certification.
