The Angleton Independent School District announced a special board meeting for May 1 to formally hire Dr. Alicia Press as the district's next superintendent, Superintendent Phil Edwards told the board on April 21, 2026.
Edwards also noted that the swearing-in of newly elected board members will be placed on the May 19 regular meeting agenda. The superintendent's update included other calendar items and operational notices to trustees, including planned presentations on a land agreement with the City of Angleton related to a proposed new water tower and an upcoming Verizon wavelength renewal.
Board members did not take a separate vote on the scheduling announcement; the special meeting and subsequent personnel actions were presented as items for the May 1 agenda. The district also noted that Edwards will begin stepping back in June to allow Dr. Press to transition into the role.
