Commission moves tentative FY25 budget to $849.9 million, schedules public hearings

County budget staff told commissioners the manager's proposed budget of $806.6 million has been updated to a tentative budget of about $849.9 million after capital, bond and other adjustments. Tommy Crawley said the shift reflects updated capital costs, bond projections, and other timing differences.
Crawley noted the county proposed millage at 7.618 mills and the MSTU (law enforcement) millage at 3.5678 mills. He reminded the board that public budget hearings will be advertised and held, with a first hearing scheduled for September 10. Commissioners questioned revenue assumptions, vacancy/lapsed-salary calculations and whether one-time funds would be used to cover ongoing costs; staff reiterated that using one-time lapsed salaries for recurring pay increases is generally not recommended and that some capital commitments are already allocated in investment accounts.
