Minutes state: "The Dick Bedlington Family Foundation has graciously offered to purchase playground equipment and to assist in the cost of site preparation for the Schoolyard Park development project for approximately $120,000, $70,000 would be gifted in 2024 and $50,000 in the beginning of 2025." The council also recorded receipt of a $350,000 Transit Access Funds (TAF) grant from the Whatcom Transportation Authority to contribute toward a 10-foot shared use path on Bradley Road between Eastwood Way and Line Road. Staff explained the WTA funding is local WTA funds and not a state or federal pass-through.
The consent agenda included a remedy contract with Management Services Northwest for 2024 landscaping at the Water Treatment Plant and Amendment 6 with BHC Consultants to prepare demolition plans for the wastewater treatment plant (demolition planned for summer 2025) using Sewer Capital Fund 442. Councilor Gary Vis moved and Councilor Gary Bode seconded approval of items 6, 7, 8 and 9; the motion passed 6-0.
These items move planned park improvements and preconstruction utility work forward and secure grant funding for pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Bradley Road.
