Planning commission continues review of Critical Areas Ordinance, aims for May public hearing

Contract Planner Kurt Danison told the Omak Planning Commission on Feb. 3, 2026, that he and planner Michelle Miller have updated the draft Critical Areas Checklist and Ordinance using input from Growth Management Services (GMS). Danison said several items remain to be addressed and that, "in order to meet the June 12, 2026, deadline for submittal, the Planning Commission will need to hold a public hearing at their meeting in May."
Commissioners were asked to read the draft documents and submit questions to staff before the next meeting; Danison said the Critical Areas section of the Comprehensive Plan and updated maps will also be presented for review in coming meetings. The commission did not take a formal vote on the ordinance draft on Feb. 3 and set further review for the March 3, 2026 agenda.
