Brenham Independent School District presented its Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) at a public hearing Feb. 17, during which staff outlined academic and accountability measures from recent school years. The district’s accountability rating on the TAPR is a C, and its special‑education determination status was reported as “needs assistance,” staff said.
Miss Behar, who led the TAPR presentation, told the board the report contains lagging data (some pulled from 2022–24 and 2023–24) and that STAAR results, attendance, graduation and CCMR measures are included. “Our accountability rating currently is a C and our special education determination status is needs assistance,” she said. She highlighted that CCMR (college, career and military readiness) was at about 69% for the class of 2024 and that the district aims to raise that figure by 10 points.
The presenter also pointed to attendance metrics and chronic absenteeism: district attendance was reported at 93.6%, while chronic absenteeism was 17.9%. “Chronic absenteeism is something that the district has worked very hard on,” Miss Behar said, noting district efforts through attendance initiatives. She described growth measures that are trending higher than achievement and said the district has a literacy framework, high‑quality instructional materials and PLC instructional cycles to close gaps.
The chair opened the hearing to questions and public comment; no substantive public objections were recorded during the hearing and the board adjourned the public hearing portion at 6:14 p.m. Staff directed audience members to the full TAPR PDF on the district website and offered to accept follow‑up questions by email.
