District 7 expects 5–7 students for Pathways; old boardroom repurposed as sensory gym

District 7 officials said Pathways will open this school year with a small initial cohort. "So starting the school year we're looking at 5 to 7 students in the building," said Darla Ratzek, Chief Academic Officer for the district, noting that each student will have individualized IEP goals the site will aim to meet.
Ratzek described the old boardroom, now a sensory gym: "There's gonna be monkey bars. There'll be some heavy, heavy weights like, sink in swings. There's other swings that are here, and we'll have other climbing apparatuses with also, the floor will be covered with mats." Officials said community donations provided furniture and equipment for the space.
