Felix Chavez was elected board president of Hutto Independent School District during the board’s May 28 meeting, trustees confirmed after nominations and a voice vote.
Trustee Felix Chavez accepted the nomination, saying, "I do accept the nomination." The board used the customary nomination, second and voice-vote procedure; a trustee made the motion to elect Chavez, a second was offered, and the chair announced the motion carried. The board also named Mr. Matlock as vice president (he was absent from the meeting) and elected Shannon Jacobs as secretary.
Members framed the votes as part of a planned rotation of duties. One trustee told outgoing President Amy that the nominations reflected a desire to "rotate that around" so different trustees carry the workload. Superintendent Dr. Martin and multiple trustees praised the outgoing president’s work and said they expected to continue collaborative governance going forward.
The officer elections followed a closed session in which the board discussed public officer qualifications; the board returned from closed session at 6:48 p.m. with no public action reported. Trustees completed the gavel and photo transition and continued to the evening’s agenda.
