Elementary Colony Cupboard, Purple Star and neurodiversity initiatives spotlighted

At the May 20 meeting the district highlighted new and ongoing supports at the elementary school, including a newly launched Colony Cupboard to provide confidential access to basic necessities for families.
Lauren Sostakowski described the Colony Cupboard’s operation: families request items through a confidential form/QR code and can either pick up items or have them sent home with a student; initial partnerships and drives will fund about 30–40 summer kits of essentials. Hallie Holt and other staff outlined Purple Star designation work to support military-connected families, including professional development and activities to identify and support students with military ties.
Morgan Colas summarized Neurodiversity Month programming and the district’s Unified Sports showcase (a Special Olympics Ohio program) that involved 34 elementary students across five classrooms, high-school volunteers and a showcase format rather than competitive play. "Unified Sports is a program sponsored by Special Olympics Ohio," Colas said, describing the district’s K–12 engagement with the program and plans to expand participation next year.
