The Calallen Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 6-0 May 19 to name Dr. Marcos Flores as Acting Superintendent effective June 1, 2026, "until the District enters into a contract with a Superintendent." Royce Cameron moved the appointment and Chelsea Schulze seconded the motion. Board President Heather Luckenbach, Vice President Michael Hatch, Cameron, Lori Jo Walker, Jerry Batek and Schulze recorded yes votes; Edward Wells was absent.
The appointment followed an executive-session period the board held under the Texas Open Meetings Act. President Heather Luckenbach told attendees the meeting would move into closed session "under the authority of Texas Open Meetings Act, Government Code Section 551.074" for the purpose of considering personnel matters related to the employment and appointment of a public officer or employee. The board returned to open session later the same evening and acted on the motion naming Dr. Flores.
The board did not record additional conditions attached to the appointment in the public minutes; the motion as stated sets Dr. Flores' start date as June 1 and ties the acting role to the district's contract process for a superintendent. With no further business reported, the special meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
