The Cameron Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Aug. 12 to raise the district's monthly contribution toward employee individual health insurance so that, combined with the state contribution, it will cover the full cost of the lowest individual insurance plan offered.
Trustee John Anderle moved the measure and amended his motion to specify its scope: "the district’s contribution rate, when combined with the state’s contribution of $75, will increase to cover 100% of the lowest individual insurance plan premium offered to employees, until further notice." The board said the current lowest individual plan costs $452 per month; before the change the district contribution was $250 monthly and was raised in staff motion language to $325 prior to the amendment. The motion passed unanimously.
Board members who supported the change framed it as a step to improve employee affordability and retention. The decision takes effect immediately; trustees did not tie the increase to a specific sunset date beyond "until further notice."
