Burleson ISD expands teacher pipeline with TechTeach partnership

District staff updated the board on TechTeach, a BISD partnership with Texas Tech University that places undergraduate teaching candidates in two-year, in-district internships. Mrs. Christy Strayhorn, TechTeach site coordinator, said the program places candidates beginning in their junior year so they can learn district practices and build mentoring relationships; the inaugural class produced five teachers for the 2024–2025 school year.
"Beginning immediately in their junior year, teaching candidates gain real-world experience in BISD with a dedicated mentor on-site," Strayhorn told the board. Superintendent-level staff thanked Strayhorn for leading the program and noted that the pathway is intended to cultivate future district educators who are familiar with BISD operations and expectations.
The board received the update as an information item; no board action was required.
