District leaders used the May 11 meeting to recognize recent athletic achievements and honor teachers of the year. Dr. Mikala Hill invited Burleson High School Cheer Coach Victoria Butler to celebrate the unified cheer squad’s first-place finish at the UIL Unified Cheer State Competition, marking back-to-back state titles for the program.
Coaches from Burleson and Centennial High Schools listed individual powerlifting placings and other state qualifiers; Centennial Girls Soccer Coach Heather McMahan introduced members of the Lady Spartans after their advance to the UIL state semifinals. Campus principals announced Amber Miller as Elementary Teacher of the Year (Academy of Nola Dunn) and Dan Salhus as Secondary Teacher of the Year (STEAM Middle School). Trustee Pat Worrell said it was "an awesome time celebrating and surprising the teachers of the year."
