Cheney park staff report 26 family pool passes sold as hiring for aquatics begins

Dan Curley, staff, reported the Cheney pool program is moving toward opening this spring as registration and hiring progress. "We have currently sold 26 family pool passes, secured one pool facility rental and posted job openings for the pool," Curley said, adding that about 8–10 applications have been received and hiring for an aquatics supervisor is planned in February. Curley also said the pool project closure with Walker Construction remains pending.
Curley described a proposed reading-incentive program with the Cheney School District that would make students who meet a minutes-read threshold eligible for a pool party the Sunday before the pool opens, and said the party’s cost could be covered by donations and a corporate sponsor. Commissioner Jackie Randall said she plans to contact elementary school PTOs in March about sponsoring a swim day and arranging transportation and lunches through the school district.
The board did not take a formal vote on program details at this meeting; Curley said staff will continue outreach to sponsors and finalize hiring and pool-party logistics before the season opens.
