Sarah Beauhart, chief academic coordinator, told trustees the district was awarded a LIFT grant that begins March 1 and runs through Aug. 31, 2027 if the district demonstrates impact; she described the award as a three‑year opportunity contingent on continued funding. "TEA awarded... $636,000 for 1 year. Then we were added on to that grant... PLC supplemental award of 240,000, totaling $876,000," Beauhart said, summarizing the amounts and how the funds align to job‑embedded professional development and instructional materials.
Beauhart explained grant spending rules: a required portion of the LIFT award (presenter stated 70%) must be contracted with a single TEA‑approved provider, and the PLC supplemental has a separate required set‑aside (presenter referenced 50% to the same approved provider). She recommended continuing the district’s relationship with NIET because NIET staff are already familiar with Brenham ISD context and have worked on campuses for more than 70 days assisting principals and instructional coaches. "The support specialist from NIET really understand our district context, our leadership expectations, and instructional priorities," Beauhart said.
Board members praised the grant and staff work to position the district for implementation. A trustee moved to accept the TEA LIFT cycle 4 grant ($636,000) and PLC add‑on ($240,000) and to execute the required contract with NIET; the motion was seconded and approved with no opposition recorded in open session.
The board packet contains vendor/provider details and the contract terms. Trustees and staff emphasized the importance of implementation continuity and the district’s plan to monitor impact to pursue subsequent years of LIFT funding if outcomes warrant it.
