DRC approves Islam Dock on Lake Santa Fe with standard environmental conditions

The Alachua County Development Review Committee voted to approve the Islam Dock final development plan and floodplain development permit at its Aug. 15 meeting. The proposed dock at 1972 State Road 21 in Melrose would total about 860 square feet after a 264-square-foot addition to the existing 596-square-foot structure.
Staff explained the project exceeds pre-application size screening but that the proposed 32-foot dock width meets the dock code and that setbacks and other requirements are met. "With that, staff finds the proposed final development plan and floodplain development permit is consistent with the Alachua County comprehensive plan and Unified Land Development Code and staff recommends approval with conditions," staff said.
No applicant appeared at the hearing and no public comments were offered. A committee member moved to approve the plan with the usual conditions — including submitting any required FDEP permit or letter of consent to the county prior to construction and prohibiting aquatic vegetation removal without prior county authorization — and the motion passed.
