DRC approves Kate Barnes boat ramp upgrades with ADA access and permit conditions

The Alachua County Development Review Committee on Aug. 15 approved improvements to the Kate Barnes boat ramp, including replacement of an existing boarding dock, construction of a new courtesy dock and new ADA-accessible routes and parking.
Jacob Stau, planner for Growth Management, said the proposal includes an 880-square-foot boarding dock and a 480-square-foot courtesy dock, and that staff supports authorizing dock size exceedances under the county code because the docks are public access and provide environmental protection. "So there's a sidewalk proposed, an ADA accessible parking space, some connections to these playground areas, and between the playground areas," Stau said while describing proposed accessible routes to restrooms and playgrounds.
Staff recommended two unique conditions of approval: submitting any required Florida Department of Environmental Protection permits or letters of consent to the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department before construction begins, and prohibiting aquatic vegetation removal without prior county authorization. Applicant representative Tim Bayline said he had no additional presentation and was available for questions. The committee moved, seconded and voted to approve the final development plan and floodplain permit with conditions.
