The Canutillo ISD Board approved the consent agenda at its Aug. 28 meeting, which included approval of multiple minutes, budget amendments, donation reports and several memoranda of understanding (MOUs) covering Texas Reading Academies (ESC Region 19), an EPCC dual credit agreement (2024–2027), a UT Austin Meadows Precision Math interventions MOU and an agreement with Aliviane Inc.
Included on the consent agenda was a motion to participate in litigation challenging the Texas Education Agency's A–F performance ratings for the 2023–24 school year and to engage O'Hanlon, Demerath & Castillo as legal counsel to handle the case. Trustee Barnes asked whether there was a cap on legal fees; Mr. Blanco responded that "there is no cap for the fees" but noted the agreement includes a termination-at-any-time clause and that Dr. Kerney was monitoring how many districts would join the lawsuit.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda items referenced in the meeting materials, and the engagement of counsel for the A–F litigation was included among the approved actions.
