Dr. Brian Nichols, Canton ISD superintendent, reported that district enrollment is 2,307 for the 2024-25 school year with campus breakdowns of CHS 658, CJH 559, CIS 534 and CES 556. "The groundbreaking ceremony for the new high school and multi-purpose will be on September 27, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.," he said during the superintendent report.
Nichols also told the board that GLS will deliver plans to Berry and Clay in the next couple of weeks, that softball and baseball field renovations are on schedule and that moisture conditioning and soft-ground work are ongoing. He noted one newly installed light pole at the football field is not functioning and Symmetry is working to repair it. Two Dodge Chargers were delivered for the Canton ISD Police Department, new bus radios were installed and the district has put surplus items up for online auction. Nichols reported that Myrtle Springs is charging Canton ISD $13,500 to relinquish water rights to the new high school and multipurpose site and that new LED lighting has been installed in the CHS gym.
The superintendent listed several upcoming events including CHS volleyball vs. Nevada on Aug. 20 and a CHS varsity tournament Aug. 22-24 as part of routine district updates.
