The Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees on April 13 voted unanimously to give Board President Jerri McNair authority to approve new hires between that meeting and the district’s next regular meeting in May. The board said it will consider ratifying those hires at the May meeting.
Board Vice President Ryan Richardson made the motion to grant temporary hiring authority, which was seconded by Trustee Dallas Owen and approved by a 5-0 vote. "that the Board of Trustees grant the Board President the authority to approve new hires between now and the next Regular meeting in May," the motion record states. The board reconvened from closed session at 6:54 p.m. to take the action.
In a separate motion later in the meeting, Trustee Pat Worrell moved, and Trustee Michael Ancy seconded, to "approve the hiring of an elementary principal as presented." That motion also passed 5-0. The board minutes record the approvals but do not include the candidate’s name in the public minutes.
The actions follow closed-session consideration of personnel matters noted on the agenda under the Texas Government Code (Title 5, Chapter 551). The board did not provide additional public details about the new hires during the open session; it indicated any ratification would occur at the May meeting.
