Special events at school prompt safety review; solicitor says ordinance limits ad hoc fee waivers

Council members discussed a separate request from Northfield Little League to waive the $1,000 special-event fee for its April 23 opening night. Several council members signaled support for a one-time waiver, but Solicitor Facenda told the council the ordinance as written does not provide a waiver mechanism and requires a 45-day submission; changing that discretion would take two readings and could not be completed in time for the April 23 event. Councilman Smith said he would speak with Superintendent Bretones about coordination with the school.
