Northfield Council approves settlement in litigation filed by Mary Canesi

Councilman Notaro moved the resolution and Councilman Polistina seconded; the roll call vote recorded one abstention from Councilman Dewees and affirmative votes from the other members.
Solicitor Kristopher J. Facenda read the resolution and summarized the result of litigation and mediation before the vote. The resolution states that “to accomplish the amicable resolution of all of the claims asserted in the Canesi Litigation, the Mayor for the City of Northfield is hereby authorized to execute the Settlement Agreement and General Release attached hereto once same is confirmed by counsel for the City of Northfield to be acceptable to and accepted by Canesi’s legal counsel.” William Cook, Esq., counsel assigned by the Joint Insurance Fund and Brown and Connery LLP, represented the City in the matter.
The council action follows an executive-session update from labor and litigation counsel; Solicitor Facenda said minutes of the executive session would be kept and released when permitted by law. The motion to adopt Resolution 124-2026 passed on roll call: Carfagno — yes; Dewees — abstain; Kern — yes; Notaro — yes; Polistina — yes; Smith — yes; Bucci — yes. The Mayor is authorized to execute the settlement once plaintiff’s counsel confirms acceptance.
