Contractor says Middletown bus‑yard soil excavation complete; middle‑school gym nears finish

Jeremy Gibb of Van Pelt told trustees, "The soil has been excavated" and added the special inspection firm completed testing that "looked very, very good," meaning material likely can go to a local Class‑2 landfill rather than be shipped out of county. He said the district is waiting for county approval before covering and finishing the site.
Gibb also updated the board on the middle‑school gym, saying interior drywall and finishes are in progress and exterior concrete pours for hardscape would begin the following week. He described the design‑build contractor as a good partner and said construction will start to "look like a finished building" within a month.
Trustees asked about truss manufacture and shipping timelines and whether roof and drywall sequencing posed scheduling or safety issues; Gibb said trusses were being manufactured but he had no ship date yet and explained that classrooms are wood‑frame structures separated from the CMU gym, with HVAC and other trades staged accordingly. The board did not take action—this was an informational update.
