Superintendent reports attendance dip, small enrollment decline and staffing reductions

Superintendent Jake Henson presented district attendance and enrollment data, stating: "The first six weeks ended with attendance at 95.59%; the second six weeks were at 95.8%; the month of November ended at 94.55% and the month of December is currently at 94.14%." He told the board the Data Integrity Team is reviewing the data to set a point of emphasis and noted the recent flu outbreak and the Friday before Thanksgiving hurt attendance.
Henson reported current enrollment is 2,247 (down seven from last month and down from 2,278 a year earlier). Finance reports showed the district used 203 substitutes during November at a cost of $19,517.50; district staffing is down 23 employees compared with last November and five employees down since the start of the school year. Board members recorded those figures but took no additional action at this meeting.
