County accepts state student loan forgiveness funds to retain mental-health staff

The Health & Human Services Committee voted to accept state mental-health office funding for a student loan forgiveness program aimed at retaining county clinicians.
"They're all receiving the maximum amount, which is, I believe, just under $30,000, $26.7," Human Services Director Al Massey said while describing prior phases and current staff recipients. He said earlier phases produced about three staff beneficiaries and the new award would add a fourth.
Committee members asked how many staff would qualify and expressed support for retention measures. The board approved the acceptance of the funds by voice vote; the motion did not specify the exact number of recipients beyond the director's description nor name the state's grant title in the resolution text.
