Farley Middle School student urges Hutto ISD to add sidewalk on County Road 137

Brooke Adkins, student body president at Farley Middle School, urged the Hutto ISD board to address a student-safety gap on County Road 137, saying about 50 students who live at the Narrows apartment complex lack a continuous sidewalk to reach the supervised crossing. "We have approximately 50 students who walk to and from the Narrows apartment each day, and these students are directly impacted by this issue," Adkins said to the board.
Adkins described students being forced onto grass and uneven ground, sometimes encountering mud, insects and snakes, and said a sidewalk on the west side of County Road 137 extending south toward the Narrows would give students a safe, reliable route and encourage use of the designated crossing point where supervision exists. "Providing a sidewalk would make those safe choices easier and safer for everyone," she said. The comment came during the public-comment portion of the July meeting.
