Board awards contract for Hilton Drive phase 2, expects roundabout open by school year start

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Board of Education on Feb. 25 approved a contract with Platform Cement Inc. to advance Phase 2 of the campus master plan, a project that includes a new roundabout on the Hilton Drive approach to the high school and redesigned parent drop-off and bike/pedestrian connections.

Brian Koss, the district’s safety and facilities coordinator, told the board the project is weather-dependent but that crews have already completed tree removal and staking. “The completion date for the roundabout or, New Hilton Drive is, the beginning of the school year,” Koss said. He described design work to direct traffic through the roundabout and to add a one-way parent drop-off along the baseball outfield with a separated bike/walking path.

Superintendent Jeff introduced the presentation and noted the contract award follows board approval of bids and legal review. The motion to approve the Platform Cement contract passed on roll call, 5–0. Board members asked about staging to avoid disrupting athletics; Koss said turf installation and other work were scheduled to limit displacement of teams and that some projects remain weather-dependent.

The contract approval follows related approvals on this agenda for pavement, roofing and parking-lot design work tied to the same campus plan. The board also authorized the district to seek additional design services and bid specifications for related campus work.

The district plans to post project photos and updates on its permanent-improvement webpage; construction schedules may change based on weather and contractor sequencing.
