Hutto ISD upgrades: auto shop, fine‑arts lobby open; competition gym awaits railings

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Sledge told trustees the district has received certificates of occupancy for the new auto shop and the fine‑arts lobby and that students have begun using the spaces.
"The new auto shop is complete. We have received the certificate of occupancy from the city," Sledge said, adding the competition gym has a temporary certificate but installation of glass railings is delayed with an expected arrival and installation in early April.
Sledge also reported that the Traffic Impact Assessment and site development plan for High School 2 have been approved and that a building permit is in hand; he said the design team is finalizing traffic signal designs for FM 1650 and Firefly, with the goal of the signal being in place before the next school year starts. He described soft openings for phases of the larger program and noted contractor Chaney Cox remains on the contractual schedule through 2027.
Trustees asked about temporary railing installation and staffing logistics; Sledge said temporary measures had been considered and the contractor expects to finish railing installation quickly once the materials arrive. He reviewed other near‑term work including courtyard renovations, locker‑room work and bus/satellite operations site planning.
