Board discusses multiple instructional-material and software purchases totaling several hundred thousand dollars

Edgewood ISD staff presented a series of proposed purchases and licensing renewals during the district's May 5 workshop covering curriculum, assessment and instructional software.
Theresa Salinas, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, and Myrna G. Martinez, Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, reviewed requests that included: Goodheart-Willcox CTE Tier 1 instructional materials for $50,100 (Title I); Amira Reading Suite and Amira Lectura K-6 from Amira Learning for $144,559.90 (Title I); SpringBoard English Language Arts 6—8 for approximately $2,245.10 (Instructional Materials and Technology Allotment); Edgenuity Academic Integrity site licenses and professional development for Kennedy High School, Memorial High School and the Fine Arts Academy for $113,785 (Title I); Bluebonnet math manipulatives and Zearn Math for $88,829.44 (Title I and IMTA); MAP Growth assessments from NWEA for $107,725 (Title I); Panorama Education platform not to exceed $79,500; and Dynamic Science and Texas Connect curriculum from K12 Summit for approximately $109,852.05 (Title I/Title III).
Trustees asked operational questions during the presentations, chiefly about grade-level scope, whether pre-K would be included in Amira adoption and whether ACE campuses would have the same access. Dr. Silva and Salinas said Amira now operates as Amira Learning (combination of Istation and Amira) and will be used through sixth grade; staff cited benefits for tiered instruction and compliance with HB 1416. Ms. Martinez clarified that adoption of Frisco ISD's RFP would permit cooperative purchasing but does not itself authorize purchases.
Staff did not request final purchase approvals for all items at this meeting; most items were presented for board review and will return as action items when staff requests formal authorization.
