Board hears options, cost estimates as Castleberry prepares curriculum adoptions for 2026–27

Chadville explained that state IMRA approvals narrow district choices; for K–5 ELAR the options that scored 100% on the rubric were HMH and Bluebonnet, and for K–5 math the IMRA‑approved choices in both English and Spanish are STEMScopes or Bluebonnet. She said Bluebonnet is provided through TEA with minimal ongoing district costs (primarily printing and optional supplemental purchases) while updated versions of HMH or STEMScopes require district purchases, digital access and annual licenses. One presenter provided a rough historical estimate that recent HMH-related expenditures were in the $700,000 range with an additional $100,000 for updates, and suggested a rough estimate of roughly $200,000 per year for maintaining a purchased commercial package, subject to vendor quotes during the adoption process.
Committees will form in January 2026 to evaluate HQIM and a recommendation will go to the board in February 2026; pilots are planned after STAAR testing in April 2026 to allow brief classroom trials and professional learning before the 2026–27 school year. Board members pressed for precise cost figures and staff said vendor quotes will be obtained as part of the adoption cycle.
