Castleberry’s Early College program reports first‑year progress; students earning dual credit

Stephanie Martinez, director of CTE, and Steven Rewey, the CCMR counselor, presented a Year‑1 update on Castleberry Collegiate Academy’s Early College High School (ECHS) provisional program. Martinez described the model as open‑enrollment and school‑within‑a‑school, aimed at historically underserved students and designed so participants can earn both a diploma and up to 60 college credit hours.
"One of the biggest advantages is that students earn dual credit at absolutely no cost," Martinez said, and she detailed the program’s MOU with Tarrant County College, course sequencing and wraparound student supports. Rewey reported enrollment and outcomes: 32 freshmen and 26 sophomores; 100% of current 9th and 10th graders have met the Algebra I EOC; 54% of students have met the math TSI and 52% have met the ELA TSI. Rewey noted students have earned 180 college credit hours so far, which he estimated at about $45,000 in college‑credit value assuming $250 per credit.
Staff outlined supports—one‑on‑one counseling, Summer Bridge, and checklists to monitor readiness—that aim to sustain progress as the cohort advances. The board offered praise and asked about recruitment timelines; administration said applications and interviews for the next cohort will take place in January and recruitment closes December 19.
