Residents report recurring sewage backups and severe local flooding; town pledges follow-up

Several Fountain City residents described repeated sewage backups and worsening stormwater flooding, asking the council for solutions and immediate relief. "Sanitation lines keep backing up after the storm... The last last occurrence was this last Saturday, and the one before that was July 11," resident Joe Longfeld told the council, adding that his basement and yard have been inundated with sewage and gray water after heavy rains.
Town staff asked residents to provide written complaints and offered to have the operator, David Allen, investigate the collection system. "If you could get all that in writing for me, I'd greatly appreciate it," a staff member said, offering to coordinate dye tests or on-site checks. Another resident, Kyle of 607 South Street, described a culvert bottleneck near Century Drive that floods within minutes. Staff said they met with a DNR representative and will arrange a field inspection and cost estimate for culvert repair or widening.
