The Hancock County Commissioners on Jan. 29 approved Resolution #75-26 to execute Change Order #1 with Buckeye Elm Contracting, LLC, adding $102,725.50 to the contract for a State of Ohio Brownfield Environmental Remediation river‑benching project along the north bank of the Blanchard River. Phil Johnson told the board the change order resulted from an unexpected volume of glass in the excavated soil; the contract completion date was extended through Jan. 31, 2026.
Kaysie Penzinski told commissioners there are funds available within the project grant to cover the change order and that the county expects an additional change order of approximately $25,000 from CEC. Phil said he believes the landfill charged for removal of the contaminated soil but did not provide a final accounting at the meeting. The board approved the change order on a 3-0 vote.
