The Cherokee ISD Board on July 29 approved a revised teacher pay schedule after the state raised the basic allotment by $55. Superintendent Jennifer Bordner told the board the district had previously been paying $2,000 above the state base and recommended lowering the district supplement to $1,700 above the new TEA minimum to address local payroll 'backside costs.'
"CISD pays $2000 above base," Bordner said in explaining the district's prior practice, and she recommended the change to "$1700 on top of state minimum TEA." Rodney Johnson moved to approve the schedule and Anne Brownlee seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The board did not specify a phased implementation date beyond adopting the schedule as presented.
