Flatonia ISD trustees on April 13 approved a one-time completion stipend of $500 for every full-time district employee and amended the budget to provide $55,000 to cover the payment.
Superintendent Chris Sodek told the board the stipend would be funded using proceeds from the district's 7V Solar Farm. "This is something we have done in the last several years with our 7V Solar Farm monies," Sodek said, and the payment is planned to appear on each affected employee's May paycheck. Trustees voted 6-0 to adopt a resolution approving the stipend; Jessica Morrill was absent.
Board members also approved a related budget amendment of $55,000 to move funds where needed to pay the stipend. Sodek said administrators may discuss a separate retention stipend for returning staff over the summer. The district did not specify how many employees will receive the stipend or list fiscal-account codes affected.
