Fabens ISD honors 2026 UIL mariachi champions, scholars and program qualifiers

At its March 25 meeting, the Fabens Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized a slate of student and staff accomplishments. The Fabens ISD Mariachis were honored as the 2026 UIL State Champions; the board and community present offered congratulations. The district also acknowledged Destination Imagination teams advancing to state competition, UTEP Excellence Scholars, regional visual arts qualifiers and individual athletic achievements.
Child Nutrition Director Marcela Licerio reported that Fabens Middle School's Child Nutrition Services passed a Texas Department of Agriculture administrative review with "no findings," and specifically commended FMS Manager Gloria Vazquez for documentation and organization. Other recognitions included Imagine Learning Texas Cup selection, TAFE state qualifiers with a national qualifier (Haydee Hernandez), and multiple athletics and arts regional qualifiers.
