Flatonia ISD board approves two new school buses and $235,000 budget amendment

The Flatonia ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 8 approved the purchase of two school buses and amended the district budget to cover the cost.
Rodney Stryk presented two bids: Longhorn Bus Sales offered a 77-passenger bus for $154,567, and Thomas Built Buses offered a 57-passenger bus for $143,000. "The Thomas bus will be a rural route bus to accommodate about 30 students and will be able to maneuver better on the rural roads," Stryk said. The board voted 7–0 to approve the purchases; the motion to approve was made by Dan Sullivan and seconded by Jessica Morrill.
After the purchase vote, the board approved a budget amendment of $235,000 to fund the buses. Stryk explained existing funds in the vehicle budget (about $60,000 remaining from a recent vehicle purchase) would be used with the amendment to cover the total. The amendment passed 7–0, with Blanca Villanueva moving and Dan Sullivan seconding.
The board's action was recorded during the regular meeting held in the Secondary Library at 6:00 p.m. The district did not provide a delivery timeline in the meeting discussion.
