FSHISD adopts resolution on SB 546; estimates $348,773 to retrofit buses with three-point belts

At a special May 27 meeting, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Julie Novak presented the district’s SB 546 public report on school-bus three-point seat belts. Novak told the board the district’s fleet totals 24 buses (including two 14-passenger activity buses) and estimated the cost to retrofit buses that are eligible for retrofit at $348,773. Novak also noted the district will sell buses not eligible for retrofit and will submit required data to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as part of compliance.
The Board adopted the recommended resolution to report on SB 546 and to begin phased-in budgeting to meet the statutory deadline of Sept. 1, 2029. The motion passed unanimously (Ayes: Nicholas, Zinnante, Braxton, White). The presentation and the district’s public report were entered into the record.
