Fort Bend ISD board approves multiple terminations and nonrenewals after closed session
Summary
Following a closed session on April 20, 2026, the FBISD Board voted to terminate two probationary contracts and to propose nonrenewal of multiple term contracts; motions carried unanimously and the board authorized notifications and outside counsel for hearings.
After reconvening from closed session at about 9:45 p.m., the Fort Bend ISD Board approved several personnel actions affecting both probationary and term contracts. Motions to terminate probationary contracts for Macey Bell and Symba Gonsalves each carried 7-0; motions to propose nonrenewal of term contracts for multiple employees also carried, and the board authorized the superintendent to notify the affected employees and to select outside counsel to conduct any requested hearings.
The board approved the superintendent's recommendations and recorded motions for nonrenewal for named employees including LB Bryant, Jeffrey Drummer, John Ekar, Peter Ericson, Ann Gibbs, Kelly Hogan, Pleshette McMahon, Tonya Sanders, Clenetra Sims and Lisa Washington. A separate motion carried 7-0 to renew and award probationary, term, dual and non-certified contracts for specified employees for the 2026-2027 school year.
Motions recorded in the minutes show the board followed the procedures authorized under Texas law for contract nonrenewal and notification. Many of the personnel motions authorized the Superintendent or his designee to notify employees "in accordance with applicable law and policy" and, where a term contract nonrenewal was proposed, authorized outside counsel to conduct any requested hearing.
